PERITIA Public Lectures on Trust in an Age of Disinformation

PERITIA is launching a new online public lectures series entitled [Un]Truths: Trust in an Age of Disinformation. Hosted by the UCD Centre for Ethics in Public Life and the American University of Armenia, the events will bring together top scholars from the USA and Europe to discuss how truth and trust in science are being contested or challenged in today’s democracies.

Speakers include Naomi Oreskes (Harvard University), Quassim Cassam (Warwick University), Michael Lynch (University of Connecticut), Heather Douglas (Michigan State University), and Dan Sperber (Institut Jean Nicod). Lecturers are leading academics in their field whose work has strongly ressonated in media and politics. Trust in science, conspiracy theories, trustworthy science, truth and democracy, and trust and cognitive science are among the key topics to be discussed throughout the series.

The lectures are designed for an academic public, but open to all those interested in philosophy for our current times. Reading materials are available for academic purposes on this page. Registration is free via Zoom. Participants will be able to listen to the lectures moderated by science communicator Shane Bergin and afterwards join an interactive Q&A debate.
