PERITIA at Science Advice Under Pressure Conference

Science advice must deliver fast. But this challenge puts science for policy under pressure. It must be clear and direct, even when the evidence is complex, incomplete, uncertain and controversial. It must maintain the highest standards of independence, even while working closely with policymakers. It must stay true to the values of science in a politically and socially complex world. In other words, science advice must reconcile certainty with speed, clarity with caution, and neutrality with political acumen. Is any of this even possible?

PERITIA will be joining the Science Advice Under Pressure conference in Brussels on 27 & 28 April to find an answer to this question together with more than 600 online and offline participants and an impressive line-up of high level speakers, including European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel. This major public conference is organised by the European Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) and will bring together policymakers, science advisors, researchers and other professionals.

The SAM warmly invites everyone working at the science-policy interface to explore the key challenges of delivering science advice under pressure through a series of panel debates, interactive sessions and networking opportunities. Participants will reflect on the diverse experiences of many different actors in the field, debating the values that underpin science advice and sharing good practice.
